Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta: As the global automotive industry accelerates its shift toward electrification, carmakers are actively exploring fuel-efficient alternatives. One such promising technology is the strong hybrid powertrain — a balanced solution that bridges the gap between traditional internal combustion engines (ICE) and fully electric vehicles (EVs). Now, Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia are reportedly preparing to adopt this technology for their upcoming mid-size SUV models.

Next-Gen Kia Seltos Hybrid May Debut by 2026

Kia is set to unveil the second-generation Seltos globally by the end of 2025, with its India launch expected in 2026. Internally codenamed SP3i, the prototype of the new Kia Seltos has already been spotted during testing.

The next-gen Kia Seltos will continue to offer the popular 1.5L turbo-petrol (tGDi) and 1.5L diesel (CRDi) engine options. However, the highlight will be the addition of a strong hybrid variant, powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with an electric motor. This move aligns with Kia’s broader electrification strategy and may pave the way for the same hybrid powertrain to be used in Kia’s upcoming three-row SUV, aimed at rivals like the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar.

The new Seltos is also expected to showcase a fresh design language, updated interiors, and a feature-rich cabin to enhance its appeal.

Hyundai Creta Hybrid Expected by 2027

Meanwhile, Hyundai has reportedly begun work on the third-generation Creta, internally known as SX3, which is likely to be introduced in India by 2027. This next-gen model is expected to retain the existing naturally aspirated petrol, turbo petrol, and diesel engine options, with both manual and automatic transmissions available.

What makes the 2027 Creta more exciting is the anticipated strong hybrid powertrain, potentially the same setup as the upcoming Seltos — combining the 1.5L petrol engine with an electric motor. Though the launch is still a few years away, the new Creta is expected to feature an entirely revamped exterior, premium interior finishes, and a more advanced technology package.

Conclusion: Hybrid Tech Marks the Future of Mass-Market SUVs

While both models are still under development and final specifications are yet to be confirmed, the shift towards strong hybrids in the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos reflects the industry’s commitment to greener mobility solutions. These vehicles aim to offer better fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and an eco-conscious driving experience — making them strong contenders in the future mid-size SUV market.
