TVS Jupiter CNG: In a major move to combat rising fuel costs, Indian two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company is preparing to launch the world’s first CNG-powered scooter, the TVS Jupiter CNG. This innovative vehicle is expected to offer dual-fuel capabilities, providing significant fuel savings to urban commuters.

Dual Fuel Technology to Boost Mileage

TVS Jupiter CNG will feature dual-fuel support, allowing it to run on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and petrol. This setup could potentially double fuel savings for riders, especially in cities where petrol prices continue to rise.

Expected Launch Timeline

TVS unveiled the concept version of the TVS Jupiter CNG at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 held earlier this year in January. As per sources close to the company, the official launch is likely to happen by late 2025 or early 2026. Alongside this, TVS is also working on other upcoming models including the iQube electric scooter upgrade and the RTX 300 adventure bike, but Jupiter CNG remains one of the most anticipated.

Performance and Engine Specifications

The upcoming scooter will be powered by a 124.8cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, delivering 7.2 bhp of power and 9.4 Nm of torque. It will come equipped with a CVT automatic gearbox, making it ideal for city commuting. The scooter’s top speed is expected to be 30.5 kmph, suitable for short urban rides.

Fuel Capacity and Range

A key highlight of the TVS Jupiter CNG is its dual fuel tanks – a 1.4 kg CNG tank located under the seat and a 2-litre petrol tank placed on the floorboard. TVS claims an impressive range of 84 km/kg on CNG and up to 226 km in combined mode, allowing riders to cover longer distances with fewer fuel stops.

Design and Features

The design of the CNG variant will largely resemble the existing petrol-powered Jupiter, with subtle updates like CNG badging. Key features will include:

  • LED headlamp
  • Semi-digital instrument cluster
  • USB charging port
  • Side stand indicator
  • All-in-one lock system

These features aim to maintain the practicality and comfort Jupiter is known for, with added eco-friendly benefits.

Expected Price in India

While TVS has not officially disclosed the pricing, experts estimate that the Jupiter CNG could cost 15–20% more than the standard petrol version. This places the expected ex-showroom price between ₹80,000 and ₹90,000, making it a competitive offering in the commuter segment.

Conclusion

With the launch of the TVS Jupiter CNG, India may soon witness a revolution in eco-friendly and cost-effective two-wheeler commuting. As fuel prices continue to surge, this innovative hybrid scooter could become a game-changer for budget-conscious riders looking for greener alternatives.
